Vocabulary that raises your reading ceiling
By Michael Ukwuma
How many words you need, which words to learn first, and how to make them stick.
Why vocabulary is the ceiling
Research by Paul Nation estimated that comfortable reading of everyday written English needs knowledge of about 8,000 to 9,000 word families. You do not need all of them for CELPIP, but every unknown word costs you time and certainty.
CELPIP texts are about everyday Canadian life. Housing. Work. Community services. Recreation. Local issues. So learn those words first.
