Who we are
Maple Path English Practice is an online practice site for the CELPIP General test. It is run by Michael Ukwuma from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. In this policy, we and us mean Maple Path English Practice. You can reach us at ukwumamc@gmail.com.
This site is for adults aged 18 and over.
What we collect
When you create an account we collect your name, your email address and a password. We never store your password itself. We store a scrambled version that cannot be turned back into the password.
As you practise we save your results, your experience points, your streak and the badges you earn, so that you can see your progress.
If you pay, the payment is handled by Paystack. We never see your card number or bank details. We keep the payment reference, the plan you chose, the amount and whether it succeeded.
We use one cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not sell your information.
Your writing and your voice
When you ask for your writing or your speaking to be marked, we send your text or your recording to Google's Gemini service so that it can be marked. Your recording is made on your own device. It is only sent when you press the mark button, and we do not keep the audio.
We do not keep the words you wrote or the transcript of what you said. After marking, we keep only your scores, so that your progress page and badges work.
Google's rules matter here. On its free service, Google may use what it receives to improve its products, and trained reviewers may read it. On its paid service, Google says it does not use your content to improve its products. For this reason, we only switch AI marking on for the public when we are using the paid service. Until then, marking is limited to our own testers. We will update this policy on the day this changes.
Please do not put private details such as ID numbers, bank details or health information in your practice answers.
Sharing a model answer
We may one day ask students who score very highly if they agree to share their recording as a model answer for other learners. We will only do this if you clearly say yes first. We will listen to it before it is shown, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
Who else sees your information
Only the services we need to run the site. These are Cloudflare, which hosts the site and stores our database, Paystack, which takes payments, Resend, which sends our account emails such as password resets, and Google, for marking as described above. We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and results for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete your name, email and results. We may keep a basic record of payments for as long as the law and our accounts require.
Your rights
You may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Nigeria's data protection law gives you these rights, and we will honour them for every student wherever you live. Write to ukwumamc@gmail.com and we will reply as quickly as we can.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. If the change is important, we will also tell you on the site.
